Dr Tony Fernando
Consultant Psychiatrist and Sleep Specialist, Auckland, NZ
Tony Fernando is a consultant psychiatrist and sleep specialist, who trained at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He is in the final stages of his PhD on medical compassion at the University of Auckland. His more recent publications are on insomnia and compassion. He has won multiple teaching awards from medical students and the faculty. In 2012, he was awarded by the President of the Philippines for his work on medical education and sleep medicine. In 2015, he received the Chair's Award, highest award given by the NZ Medical Association to any doctor in NZ. In 2017, he received temporary ordination as a Buddhist monk in Myanmar.
Sleep and Pain
Sleep is often disrupted in pain. Despite this, there is scant research on treatment guidelines in managing sleep in pain patients. This session will focus on the assessment and multidimensional management of sleep in pain patients.
